Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Buick Buick Regal GS Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery Last week, we heard rumors that Buick had finally decided to produce the Regal GS but no official announcement came from General Motors headquarters. This morning as U.S. media gathered to drive the Regal in California, the GS officially became a reality. And while our man Michael Harley is on the launch, we also just received an email from Dayna Hart in GM communications proclaiming: "At wave 1 of our drive program for Regal we just confirmed that the Regal GS will be added to the Buick portfolio. We are not providing any additional details at this point." As the quote notes, Buick isn't sharing any other details about the GS such as timing, or what engine will be in the car. We're expecting that Buick will stick with the 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected Ecotec inline-four that was listed on the spec sheet for the concept version shown at the Detroit Auto Show last January. However, now that Hyundai has announced the Sonata Turbo with 276 horsepower, we're expecting that Buick will try to ensure that the Regal GS will have more than the 255 hp announced back in January.
Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Buick , GM Buick Regal GS concept - Click above for high-res image gallery When General Motors debuted the Buick Regal GS at this year's Detroit Auto Show , they made it very clear that the car on stage, which looked production-ready, was purely a concept - nothing more. Even though the white show car with its beefed up appearance and 20-inch wheels looked like it was ready to roll (it was, after all, a rebadged Opel Insignia OPC), no final decision had been made about whether or not the automaker would actually produce the turbocharged version of the new pride-and-joy Regal sedan. Lest anyone forget, this is an important car for Buick , as it's charged with attracting a significantly younger crowd of buyers to the brand. The GS would certainly help do the trick, and now, it sounds like all systems are go for the hotter than hot Regal. The Detroit News reports that Tom Stephens, Vice Chairman of Global Product Development for GM, has confirmed that the Regal GS has been approved for production and that it could hit showrooms at some point next year. If the specs outlined for the Detroit show car are anything to go on, this means that a turbocharged 2.0-liter four will be under the hood, likely producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. What's most interesting, though, is that the show car routed this power to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The Buick Regal GS is a lightly disguised concept car. It is a stick-shift sedan that reaches 60 mph in less than six seconds. The GS, short for Grand Sport, was a badge worn by Buick’s muscle cars in the ’60s and ’70s. My favorite Buick was the 87 GNX. Never knew you could get a V6 to do such beautiful things

Here are images and information on the highlighted concept vehicles found at this years Detroit Auto Show. Enjoy! Audi e-tron Who says green-tech can’t be fast or sporty. Well Audi will be one in the fore-front of turning an electric car into a performance luxury sports car.
Ever have one of those “WTF” kinda days? Well, that would be me today after I get the announcement for one of the winners of 2010 North American Car & Truck of the Year. Enough about me, the winners are the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and the 2010 Ford Transit Connect. Last year I was cool with the decision to crown the Hyundai Genesis and Ford F-150 as I was in previous years. Okay, great, excellent vehicles. My only gripe this year would be the Ford Transit Connect.

Ford's 2010 Fusion Hybrid and Transit Connect have yielded the hardware for the Dearborn automaker here at the Detroit Auto Show , with the Fusion emerging victorious over the shortlisted Buick LaCrosse and Volkswagen Golf , and the Transit Connect besting the Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Outback . The last time a single manufacturer won both the Car and Truck of the Year awards was back in 2006, when Honda did double duty with its Civic compact and Ridgeline pickup.

I bought my first Saab from my best friend for $300 bucks. The driver’s side floor pan was rusted out nothing a painted piece of plywood couldn’t fix. The engine ran beautifully and it had the one part that all young men with cheap and fast on their mind “a turbo charger”. When I learned that GM had purchased Saab I was devastated because the last thing I wanted for a car brand with such a distinct personality was to become a rebadged Buick. And that is what killed the Swedish Saab.

“The Camry of Full-Size Sedans” With all the talk in the press about the Camry as being the best-selling mid-size sedan, not much attention is paid to the full-size version, Toyota’s flagship the Avalon. I’ve tested several Camry’s but never got the chance to drive an Avalon. The news is that the Avalon is a smooth ride, comfortable and roomy for five adults, well appointed with the latest in personal features, and very safe in the event of a collision. There are three trim levels offered including the base XL, mid-level XLS and the Limited. All trim levels come standard with the 268hp 3.8 liter V6 engine which operates smoothly and quietly. I tested the Limited which offered every kind of automotive near luxury and luxury items that I have found in other quality, full-size vehicles. This ‘Camry on steroids’ has its own styling, interior design, and shares its only engine, the 3.8 liter V6, with the ‘top-of-the-line’ Camry. The Avalon is designed and manufactured for larger families and consumers that need the extra interior and larger trunk space. What is really enjoyed about driving the Avalon was its smooth, seamless ride, thanks to its long wheelbase and suspension, around town and on the freeway. The 268hp V6 puts out plenty of power and torque to quickly move the Avalon at launch or when you need to pass slower traffic. This smooth running V6 is mated to Toyota’s 6-speed ECT-i automatic transmission. For a litter bit more excitement you can shift the transmission out of automatic mode and hold the six gears almost to redline to increase acceleration and drive it like you had a 6-speed manual

Lexus , or as Autoblog calls it, Toyota’s Buick, has performed a little cosmetic surgery on the Lexus LS600h and GS450h. At the same time they have introduced an IS250 F-Sport edition that is suppose to make the IS250 “more sporty” I guess. Is this how Lexus is going to celebrate their 20 years of making some of the most reliable and luxury cars on the road? Probably! I have said it before and some people bashed me for saying it, Toyota and Lexus are plain boring. And now, I will say it again… “Toyota and Lexus are boring!” Take it how you want to take it but that is just a fact with just the slight exception of the IS-F, but that’s a whole other story. Lexus has made a name for themselves 20 years ago and all else has been history

Filed under: Hybrid , Crossover , Buick , GM , Alternative Fuel Surprising news comes by way of General Motors today as the automaker has already canceled its recently announced Buick crossover , which in reality was little more than an ex-Saturn Vue emblazoned with Buick's trademark chrome waterfall grille. And therein lies the rub. As confirmed to Autoblog by Michelle Bunker, Manager of Buick Communications, initial feedback from the media, employees and dealerships regarding the upcoming vehicle was almost universally negative, as the product just didn't seem to fit with the direction the automaker said it was taking the Buick brand. As a result, GM has apparently canceled the program. Thankfully, though, the Vue's plug-in hybrid powertrain, which we sampled in 2-mode hybrid prototype , will reportedly be transferred to another vehicle and will hit the market with no delay from the previously announced 2011 sale date. While some might say (and with good reason) that GM should have known the Vue didn't belong in Buick showrooms in the first place, the automaker cites this quick action as evidence that things really are changing at New GM, and it's hard to argue with that assessment - there's little doubt it would have taken countless meetings leading to numerous delays to make such a decision just a few months back
