Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossover , Chrysler , Dodge 2012 Dodge Durango/Magnum spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery Just as Chrysler puts the finishing touches on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee , our spies have captured its platform mate, the 2012 Dodge Durango/Magnum (we still aren't sure what the final name will be), out testing near the company's Auburn Hills, Michigan headquarters. Not much has changed since the last time the new Dodge crossover was spied , but seeing the prototype running around near Chrysler HQ means that more of the swirly camouflage could be coming off in the next few months. When the new Durango/Magnum officially launches next year, expect it to be available with Chrysler's new 3.6-liter V6 and possibly a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (much like the new Jeep ). The front end looks similar to that of the Ram pickup, and since the Ram brand has been spun off to house Dodge's truck offerings, don't be shocked if the new Durango falls under that umbrella. If development and testing continue at a steady pace, we'll likely get to see the finished product at either the 2010 Los Angeles or 2011 Detroit Auto Show .
Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Chrysler , Reviews 2010 Chrysler 300C SRT8 - Click above for high-res image gallery If the economic downfall of 2008 had happened just a few years earlier, the Chrysler 300C SRT8 probably wouldn't exist. Think about it: when the nation was on the verge of $4.00/gallon gasoline and people were doing everything possible to get out of their fuel-sucking SUVs and into smaller, more efficient vehicles, a 425-horsepower flagship sedan with a free-breathing 6.1-liter Hemi V8 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But then again, did it ever? The 300C SRT8 is the product of a pre-castrated Chrysler . This was a time of Viper -powered Rams , Hemi-powered Jeeps and SRT-badged Neons. "You want it, you got it." Chrysler wanted the 300C SRT8 to start a new trend of muscle sedans - a land where quarter-mile times reigned supreme, and booming exhaust notes were all that mattered. This trend never really caught on (save the Cadillac CTS-V , which has been honed to be one hell of a machine), and at the end of the day, Chrysler was left with a big, heavy, powerful sedan that didn't offer much in the way of refinement and carried a near-$50,000 price tag.

Filed under: Crossover , Chrysler , Jeep , Reviews 2010 Jeep Patriot - Click above for high-res image gallery The year was 2006, and Chrysler was fresh off the successful launch of the gangsta 300 and the oddly well-received Dodge Charger . The future looked bright for the Pentastar, with a plethora of new products set to arrive for the 2007 model year. The Chrysler Sebring and Aspen , the Dodge Caliber and Nitro and the Jeep Compass and Patriot were all primed to turn the car-buying world on-end. Or not. The Aspen is now history, the Sebring and Nitro have been abject failures, and the Caliber, Compass and Patriot, all of which share the same platform, haven't come close to meeting expectations. But one vehicle almost had a shot: the Patriot. Despite mudding Jeep's crystal-clear brand DNA by adding a front-wheel drive soft-roader to the mix, the Patriot's all-four cylinder lineup and better-than-advertised fuel economy arrived just as gas prices rocketed into the stratosphere.

Filed under: SUV , Marketing/Advertising , Chrysler , Dodge According to an Autoblog source, Dodge will abandon the Durango nameplate for the model's replacement due for 2012. In place of that two-generation designator, Chrysler is exhuming the Magnum nameplate, a moniker used on the low-slung wagon built on Chrysler's LX platform up until 2008. The new Magnum is expected to be built atop the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis (itself riding on Mercedes-Benz -derived architecture) and skew more toward the crossover segment than the previous rough-and-ready SUV. Our source originally showed us a screen capture of a Pentastar service training software page on its Chrysler Academy Learning Center confirming the Magnum's existence (shown above), but at that time, he wasn't clear what the vehicle was.

“The Camry of Full-Size Sedans” With all the talk in the press about the Camry as being the best-selling mid-size sedan, not much attention is paid to the full-size version, Toyota’s flagship the Avalon. I’ve tested several Camry’s but never got the chance to drive an Avalon. The news is that the Avalon is a smooth ride, comfortable and roomy for five adults, well appointed with the latest in personal features, and very safe in the event of a collision. There are three trim levels offered including the base XL, mid-level XLS and the Limited. All trim levels come standard with the 268hp 3.8 liter V6 engine which operates smoothly and quietly. I tested the Limited which offered every kind of automotive near luxury and luxury items that I have found in other quality, full-size vehicles. This ‘Camry on steroids’ has its own styling, interior design, and shares its only engine, the 3.8 liter V6, with the ‘top-of-the-line’ Camry. The Avalon is designed and manufactured for larger families and consumers that need the extra interior and larger trunk space. What is really enjoyed about driving the Avalon was its smooth, seamless ride, thanks to its long wheelbase and suspension, around town and on the freeway. The 268hp V6 puts out plenty of power and torque to quickly move the Avalon at launch or when you need to pass slower traffic. This smooth running V6 is mated to Toyota’s 6-speed ECT-i automatic transmission. For a litter bit more excitement you can shift the transmission out of automatic mode and hold the six gears almost to redline to increase acceleration and drive it like you had a 6-speed manual

When the original 300C hit the streets back at the turn of this century, it hit it big with enthusiasts waiting for the return of rear wheel drive, a big V8 engine, packaged into a full-size sedan. When the Charger appeared it took with it the enthusiasts who wanted more edgy performance and styling. The Chrysler 300C always stood for elegant style, Hemi power, comfortable high-performance handling, and luxury. With the introduction of the new 2009 300C Heritage Edition, consumers wanting the elegant style and luxury found in a 300C, but needed that more edgy performance, now have the opportunity to have both. The new Heritage Edition combines the same edgy, sport-tuned suspension, performance shocks, and a performance steering gear found in the Dodge Charger RT Daytona. On the outside Chrysler adds a unique, bright chromed mesh grille, chin spoiler, rear trunk lip spoiler, and ‘Heritage Edition’ badges on the front fenders. The Heritage Edition 300C doesn’t look or perform like the factory 300C, it only does it better and is a terrific bargain for a full-size, powerful, high-performing luxury sedan. It’s the way I would want my 300C to look and handle.
