For a decade, Nissan has been leading the path for crossover SUV vehicles. By expanding the crossover line with new vehicles such as the Rogue, Nissan has managed to provide consumers with a more efficient and economical alternative in a massively competitive segment. The new 2012 Nissan Rogue, continuing its versatile platform based off of the Nissan Sentra, gives drivers crisp handling and sporty characteristics in a 5-passenger compact crossover package. The Nissan Rogue, first introduced as a 2008 model, receives some additional refinement and features set for the 2012 model year. The new 2012 Rogue adds an optional Special Edition trim package and a 360-degree camera view in place of the single standard back-up camera. The new 360-degree camera view is just like Nissan’s and Infiniti’s infamous around-view monitor system.

Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa pose with their new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s Formula One drivers aren’t like you and I. They live in nicer houses, have bigger bank accounts and sometimes have garages filled with lustworthy cars. Jenson Button, for example, used to own a Bugatti Veyron, and the McLaren Mercedes driver recently sold his classic Ferrari 512 BB. It’s not uncommon for automakers partnered with F1 teams to give drivers their wares, since it’s clearly good advertising for the brand. Current world champion Sebastian Vettel drives an FX50 crossover from team sponsor Infiniti, and we’d be willing to bet he didn’t pay list price for it. Ferrari recently issued new company cars to team drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Instead of giving them Ferrari FFs (too long of a wait list for paying customers), or Ferrari 458 Italias (too impractical), the F1 stars each received a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you’re puzzled by the tie-in, remember the family tree that Jeep is now part of

We knew that Kia would have a hard time topping last year’s Super Bowl epic, which featured everything from a fake motorcycle cop through Optima-worshipping Mayans. We weren’t sure where they were going when we first saw the brief video of Adriana Lima waving the checkered flag, and then we were pretty sure Kia had lost its mind when it posted a five-hour video of Lima waving a checkered flag. We’ll admit that she’s easy on the eyes, but a five hour video of anyone, doing pretty much anything, is about four hours too long for our attention spans. Somehow, however, Kia pulled it off. Their Super Bowl ad may be the best we’ve seen this year, and it’s as bizarre as last year’s effort. We’ll let you be the judge, though – take a look at the video below, and tell us if it beats the efforts from Toyota, Volkswagen and Acura

Volkswagen was one of the first automakers to release a teaser video for its upcoming Super Bowl ad, and we couldn’t see how dogs barking the Imperial March from Star Wars had anything to do with selling VWs. Sure, its Darth Vader spot was the unexpected hit of last year’s Super Bowl, but going back to the same well for inspiration two years in a row rarely works well. The good news is that VW’s actual big game ad doesn’t feature dogs barking in harmony, and the Star Wars connection comes from out in left field. Yes, there’s a dog (who takes inspiration from the all new VW Turbo Beetle), and there’s even a scaled-down Darth Vader. We’re not sure if that works for two years in a row; in fact, we’re not even sure if the ad works at all. It seems to us that VW spent a serious amount of money on licensing for licensing sake. Last year’s Star Wars tie-in was funny, since most of us could picture doing something similar when we were kids. This year the connection just isn’t there, and the whole intergalactic cantina scene really doesn’t add to the video. Maybe we’ve just seen one too many Super Bowl car ads this year, and we need a fresh perspective

For years Chevrolet played the small car game, but their cards were often coming up short when vetted against the over-seas competition. This year, Chevrolet introduces the 2012 Sonic. An all-new small car from the ground up that is poised to compete worldwide. The all-new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic brings the subcompact segment back home for General Motors in a way that reaches across the pond. The 2012 Chevy Sonic is essentially a replacement for the ill-fated Daewoo-breed Chevy Aveo. Without even driving the Sonic, at first glace, I can say with a certainty that the Sonic will be a much needed improvement. As a world market competitor, the new Chevy Sonic will have no problems keeping up with the competition. The new Chevy Sonic gets a choice of two fuel-efficient yet peppy 4-cylinder engines

It’s a well known fact that our neighbors north of the border have very little sense of humor when it comes to street racing. In fact, those of us in the country to the south would have concerns about even passing another car on a Canadian highway, lest we be stopped for racing, or worse, “stunt driving.” Apparently that’s a problem for taxis in Toronto, too, and a pair of drivers recently found themselves on the wrong side of the law. As Autoblog , via Autoblog Canada , reports, the two cabbies were pulled over for “stunt driving” down Toronto’s Younge Street, which has the distinction of being the longest street in Canada. As you’d guess, Younge Street once had a reputation for being a street racer’s paradise, as least when it wasn’t snow-packed. Stunt driving comes with a seven-day license suspension and allows police to impound the vehicles involved. We’re sure the cab companies have already gotten their property back, but we’re less sure about the job security of the drivers involved in the incident. We don’t condone street racing, especially on pedestrian-clogged avenues. However, we’ve spent plenty of time in the back seat of NYC taxis and lived to tell about it. If you want to see stunt driving, climb into the back of a New York City cab at rush hour, and tell the driver there’s a $20 tip if he can get you cross town in fifteen minutes or less.

When it comes to Super Bowl advertising, we thought we’d seen it all. Last year, we had Kia giving us aliens, Mayans and even a dash of Poseidon, while Volkswagen shamelessly ripped off George Lucas (after paying him handsomely, we’re sure). This year, Kia has supermodel Adriana Lima, Chevy has a berserk college student, Lexus has a caged GS and Audi has… vampires. I’d say the vampire meme is played out, but it’s way beyond played out. In fact, it’s played out, buried, dug up, killed with a stake through its heart and buried again. Then it’s dug up and cremated. Does anyone other than 16 year-old-girls and drug-addled goths even think about vampires these days

Scosche Industries' cellCONTROL module. Image: Scosche Industries Scosche Industries builds accessories for car audio and consumer electronics, and it’s also created the first (that we’re aware of) legal cell phone blocking system. Unlike cell phone jammers (which have existed for years but are illegal for civilians to use), the Scosche system , called “cellCONTROL,” works via Bluetooth and only with a paired phone. As Autoblog explains, cellCONTROL is a two-part system, requiring both a smartphone app and a cellCONTROL module to function. When the app is installed on a phone, and the module is plugged into the vehicle diagnostic port, all internet connectivity, inbound and outbound calls and texts are blocked. Tamper with the module, and the account administrator will get a text or e-mail message saying the system has been disabled. Since the system detects when a vehicle is in motion, it’s smart enough to only block calls when the vehicle is moving. Likewise, calls are allowed when a paired Bluetooth hands-free device is detected. The system starts at just under $130, and we see a huge market for both parents and businesses alike.

The 2012 Fisker Karma. Image: Jay Leno's Garage Chances are good that you’ve heard of the Fisker Karma. Recently launched, the car has made appearances on CBS’s “Two And A Half Men,” but it’s already been the subject of two voluntary safety recalls by Fisker. Like the Chevrolet Volt, the Fisker Karma is an extended range electric vehicle, but unlike the Volt is aimed at the luxury market. It’s not a sport sedan, but it is a legitimate grand touring car, with a price tag (north of $100k) to match. Designed by Henrik Fisker, the Karma is powered by lithium-ion batteries driving two rear-mounted electric motors. Combined, these motors produce the equivalent of 400 horsepower and 1100 pound-feet of torque, and on battery power alone the car has a range of up to 50 miles. When the batteries run down, a gasoline-powered generator kicks in, providing power to the motors and giving the Karma a virtually unlimited range (assuming you stop for gas every 250 miles, that is)

Just when you thought that the sad ending of Saab was finally done, it looks like some of the brand’s GM-influenced models will be reborn under the Beijing Automotive Industry brand. Three models, including one based on the former Saab 9-5 and two based on the former 9-3, are expected to be exhibited at next April’s Beijing Motor Show. Left Lane News tells us that Beijing Automotive’s range will include two sedans and a compact SUV, all of which will use Saab’s old platforms. Since the Chinese company doesn’t also own the rights to Saab’s exterior styling, expect the cars to look a bit different than their former Swedish cousins did. Like most things that went wrong with Saab, GM is ultimately to blame for this, too. When GM was trying to sell off Saab in 2009, it was Beijing Automotive that stepped up to buy the rights to select Saab platforms, engines and transmissions. The deal ultimately kept Saab afloat until Spyker stepped in to buy the company.

You cannot make much of a convincing argument in saying that the old Acura NSX is not a sexy sports car. With that said, we dare to ask the question: Is the new Acura NSX Concept car at-all sexy or appealing? Some enthusiasts will bring up the fact that the new Acura NSX boasts a hybrid drivetrain and that ends the discussion right there. Others will let the new design marinate with a future possibility of allowing the new Acura NSX to satisfy their appetite for what the NSX was (and still is) known for. Quite possibly the new Acura NSX Concept Gran Turismo 5 (Polyphony) Promo video below will change some people’s minds… somewhat doubtful, but there is always hope in all-things sinful. Enjoy!

It’s Monday, and if you work for the government, it’s a federal holiday to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. If you’re lucky enough to have the day off, you’d probably enjoy a nice car-versus-motorcycle drift video, complete with stunts, a radio-controlled chase car, mirror shades and a plot with enough cheese to serve up about a dozen large pizzas. If you have to work today, chances are you’ll need a diversion at some point, too. Representing for two wheels are Nick “Apex” Brocha and Ernie Vigil, riding specially prepared Triumph Speed Triples with enough power to roast a rear tire all the way around a track

Small light-weight compact cars are attempting to make a big impact on the American car culture. Many brands are injecting what they consider to be “the best offering” when it comes to a subcompact. Chrysler and Fiat has made a fair attempt at this endeavor in the all-new 2012 Fiat 500. The Italian Fiat 500 has been welcomed by many in the European market. For them, 2012 Fiat 500 nothing new under the sun

Probably one of the most recognized slogans for a luxury car brand is BMW’s “Ultimate Driving Machine”. BMW wants to be sure that you know the motto by heart, which is why they have released a new commercial titled “We Only Make One Thing”. Reportedly, BMW will take its reemphasized slogan to new heights as they become crowned the best-selling luxury brand in the U.S. That in itself says a lot about a single car company. I know at least one of us here at AutomotiveAddicts.com choose to drive a BMW vehicle and have been doing so for over 10 years now. Check out BMW’s Ultimate Car Commercial for the brand that makes “The Ultimate Driving Machine” below.

The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth. Image: Chrysler Group LLC Affordable Italian sports cars used to be a staple of the American motoring diet. In the 1970s and 1980s, we had Lancias, Fiat Spyders and Fiat X/19s aplenty, and stepping up to the next price level would have gotten you an Alfa Romeo GTV or an Alfa Spyder. These cars all had a lot of personality, but most were constructed with inadequately rustproofed steel, which meant owners could watch their prized Italian automobiles decay before their very eyes. Since Italian cars weren’t renown for bulletproof reliability, either, getting stranded once or twice was usually enough to overcome their charms. In the 1980s, finding a cheap Fiat that needed work was as easy as opening the newspaper

The 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Image: Chrysler Group LLC If you’re in the market for a pony car, it’s easy to overlook the Dodge Challenger. In SRT8 form, it’s more expensive than a Mustang GT or a Camaro 2SS, and it’s a noticeably larger car. That’s a plus when you’re on a long-distance roadtrip, where the big Dodge swallows miles like a sumo wrestler downing a plate of freshly-rolled toro maki . It’s a big minus when it comes to things like track days, where the super-sized Challenger just can’t keep up with its pony car rivals.

Audi's Q3 Vail concept. Image: Audi Announcements regarding compact crossovers tend to fill us with as much excitement as announcements about new vegetarian restaurants (since we’re confirmed meatatarians). When we first heard that Audi would show a custom version of its upcoming Q3 crossover in Detroit, we’ll admit that our eyelids got a bit heavy. After all, how exciting could a compact grocery-getter be? Plenty exciting, as it turns out, especially when said grocery-getter packs 314 horsepower and quattro all-wheel-drive into one tastefully styled package. We won’t bore you with Audi’s pages of details on styling elements, but we’ll sum it up by saying that the Q3 Vail looks both aggressive and refined at the same time. We like the Energy Red paint, which contrasts well with the matte gray and aluminum trim, and think the Q3 Vail is a stunner from any angle. Audi's Q3 Vail concept. Image: Audi There’s some impressive attention to detail in the Vail as well.
