There are many small hidden players in the automotive industry that few outsiders never hear of, even though they make huge contributions to it. Gearhead Performance Group (GPG) is one of those rarely heard of, which has unveiled designs for a new Pontiac Trans Am concept based on the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Fashioned after the original Camaro-based Pontiac Trans AM from 1971, the new design has been in development for the past several years and is now ready to be ordered. The modern version comes with a LS9 engine like the one found in the Corvette ZR1 except the Trans AM has a pair of twin-turbochargers bolted on instead of the standard ZR-1 supercharger.

Do you ever pull up next to an older white Chevy Caprice on the highway and wonder if it is safe to pass him because you do not know if it is an unmarked police car or an older patrol vehicle sold at auction to a normal civilian? Pretty soon we won’t have to worry about trying to figure this out because there will be a new sheriff in town driving around in his 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police car. That’s right; the Chevy Caprice is back, but this time only as a police car. GM has unveiled a new 355hp Chevy Caprice police car based off of the, you guessed it, Pontiac G8 Zeta platform used to also underpin the new Chevy Camaro .

‘LETTING THE SHINE IN 12 MONTHS A YEAR’ When the road calls, the Infiniti G has always been quick to answer. Since its introduction in 2002, the G has been known for delivering the most rewarding combination of fluid design and exhilarating performance in its entry-level luxury segment. I was so enthralled with the car when I first tested it in 2002 that I drove straight to Monument Valley, Utah, some 400 miles away. Now in 2009 the Infiniti brand brings to market wide-open exhilaration of wide-open motoring, its first convertible, the 2009 G37 and G37S. The G convertible retains the Infiniti’s G’s sporty long cabin/short trunk proportions through the use of a three-piece steel hardtop, providing a ‘dual beauty’, that rare occurrence when a convertible looks as good with the top up or down. The thoroughly modern G convertible’s exciting and comfortable interior includes standard leather-appointed seating, an optional Bose Open Air Sound system that dynamically changes equalization based on outside noise, top position, and vehicle speed. An Adaptive Dual Zone climate control system adjusts fan speed in accordance to top position and vehicle speed, and available Climate-Controlled seats that provide both heating and cooling functions, and this is just the start of the luxury, performance, high-tech and safety features standard and available in the all-new G convertible. The G convertible maintains a coupe-like silhouette with the top up through the use of a special three-piece ‘clamshell’ retractable hardtop, which allows for use of a shorter rear overhang and low trunk lid. A drawback to this design is the miniscule amount of trunk space with the top down, just 1.99cu.ft.

Saturn owners are some of the most loyal automotive consumers that you will find. The initiation of that same type of loyalty was rolled out in a car company that was just “different” as their slogan stated at one time, “Saturn: A Different Kind of Car Company”. Current owners of Saturn vehicles begged and pleaded for General Motors not to sell the brand off but despite all of the efforts and GM’s current bankruptcy status, the Saturn brand has to find a new owner. Since the bankruptcy status of General Motors has taken first place in recent news headlines, we witness massive changes in what was one of the biggest automotive companies around. General Motors has said today that they will agree to sell the Saturn brand to Penske. As you may already know, Penske is owned and run by entrepreneur Roger Penske, who seeks to purchase Saturn for $100 to $200 million.

We have said Toyota was plain boring before especially when it comes to sports cars or even “sporty” coupes. The question I have been asking for several years now, where is Toyota’s AE86 Corolla for the new millennium? Well, I think they have answered my question (and prayers). Toyota and Subaru, in a joint venture, plan to introduce a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe in 2011 or 2012. Subaru is already an exciting brand but it is pretty sad that it takes Subaru to inject some excitement into Toyota

Well let’s see, there once was an Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Explorer, a Coach Edition Lexus ES300, and a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Versace Edition, which were tasteful “name-branded” cars that all came from the factory. Outside of the factory, we have “customizers” who feel the need to take it upon themselves to add a name-brand to their own ride. Some are somewhat tasteful and others are down-right ridiculous such as this “Gucci” Pontiac Sunfire shown in the images below taken from the L4P.com forum . I thought that the Luis Vuitton Bentley was ridiculous but this Gucci Pontiac Sunfire takes the cake

For 2009 Audi brings us more power and higher levels of performance with the new TTS model coupe and roadster. It is now even more fun and exciting to drive than the original TT. The new iconic TTS is built to appeal to a young and dynamic group of consumers and the TTS represents the Audi brand’s advancement through technology in its very best form. The TFSI engine takes the two Audi technologies of gasoline direct injection and turbocharging and blends them to form a perfect partnership. Aside from its output of 265hp, it is its peak torque of 258lb.ft. which is constantly on tap between 2,500 and 5,000rpm, that makes the compact and lightweight 2.0 liter four-cylinder unit so impressive. Compared to last year’s engine, the 2.0 liter power unit has been reengineered and strengthened in a number of key areas. The S-tronic 6-speed automatic is the only transmission available in the TTS and deploys two clutches, is capable of performing extremely quick gear shifts at high engine loads and rev speeds, and consequently, the time takes to spring from 0-60mph is cut to 4.9sec. in the coupe and 5.1sec
