Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertible , Hybrid , Porsche , Electric Porsche 918 Spyder concept - As expected, the Porsche supervisory board has approved the development of the 918 Spyder concept into a series production model. The 918 debuted as a concept at this year's Geneva Motor Show with a plug-in hybrid powertrain claimed to provide 78 miles per gallon. The concept used a 500-horsepower V8 along with a pair of electric motors with 109 hp each and a lithium ion battery that can provide 16 miles of emissions-free driving from grid energy. The powertrain is not expected to be changed much for production and Porsche has not announced when 918 will be available. There has been speculation that the production model could cost up to €500,000 (about $650,000 USD), although if it comes to the States, it should be eligible for a federal tax credit. Even with up to $7,500 it still makes the Chevrolet Volt look downright cheap . Before you start looking in your couch cushions for a down payment, check out the official press release after the jump and our high-res gallery below. Need more proof? The boys from Korea have just stepped up to stand in for Porsche , offering to take on Mini at its Road Atlanta Challenge . In a smack-talk-tastic video response they've just released to Mini USA head Jim McDowell , Hyundai says they're eager to bring their Genesis Coupe to the Hotlanta raceway next month. What about Mini's planned June 21 event? Seems Hyundai race driver Rhys Millen is a bit busy getting ready to climb a certain mountain , so Hyundai is challenging Mini to a race in July.

Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertible , Hybrid , Performance , Porsche Porsche 918 Spyder Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery We still haven't stopped drooling over the Porsche 918 Spyder concept , a car that debuted at this year's Geneva Motor Show . It's a sexy infusion of both Boxster and Carrera GT influences, with a dash of hybrid power thrown in for good measure. What's not to love about a 500-horsepower, V8-powered roadster that can hit 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds? Oh, and did we mention that, because of its additional electric motors, Porsche claims that the 918 can also achieve up to 78 miles per gallon? We highly approve. According to Autocar , we aren't the only ones swooning over the 918. In fact, Porsche is apparently fully committed to building a serial version of the Spyder. No official confirmation has been made, but in speaking to Autocar , Porsche boss Michael Macht says, "There is no one inside Porsche who doesn't want to build the 918," later adding, "The 918 Spyder proves the answer to whether there can be high-performance cars in the future." If this concept does get the green light for production, we could likely see it hit the streets within the next five years. We'll do our best to remain patient.

Filed under: SUV , Geneva Motor Show , Porsche , Luxury 2011 Porsche Cayenne - Click above for high-res image gallery Less than 24 hours after leaked shots of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne made their way onto the internet, we now have the official images and details about the third generation of Porsche's love-it-or-hate-it sport-ute. Visually, the new Cayenne gets some obvious Panamera -inspired touches up front (i.e., headlamps), and like past generations, Turbo models (pictured above) get a much more aggressive overall fascia than the lesser models. And even though it looks a bit more petite, this Cayenne is actually 1.9 inches longer than the 2010 model, with 1.6 inches of added wheelbase length. The big news for the 2011 model year is the introduction of Cayenne S Hybrid-Porsche's first production hybrid vehicle-which uses a parallel full hybrid drive system. The gasoline engine is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 (sound familiar?), and when mated to a 47-horsepower electric motor, total output for the hybrid is rated at 380-hp and 427 pound-feet of torque, all of which is fully delivered at just 1,000 rpm. Porsche says that the Cayenne S Hybrid is capable of driving up to 40 mph solely using electric assist, and the gasoline engine can be completely switched off at cruising speeds up to 97 mph. We'll have official fuel economy numbers when the new Cayenne goes on sale

Of course, “complicate and add relaxation” doesn’t sound as good, but that’s what the new car does, with excellent, possibly even brilliant results that will tempt not just the Lotus faithful, but more than a few Porsche 911 intenders. Lotus has lived on the razor’s edge most of its 61-year existence but has enjoyed some of its greatest sales since the introduction of the extraordinary Elise in 1995.

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Europe , Videos , Crossover , Mini Mini Countryman - Click above for high-res image gallery Here is your new Mini Countryman , the latest model from the ever expanding Mini range. As you can see, the Countryman (also sometimes called the Mini Crossover) is a bit bigger than other Minis, and sports four doors - five if you count the hatch. You'll also note the "All4" badge on the back, indicating that the Countryman is AWD, a first for the brand. You also might be noticing that the Countryman has different headlights (which we find quite attractive), as well as a new grille treatment. There's definitely a bit of baby Porsche Cayenne going on up front and in the stance, though it's clearly still a Mini

Last fall, many will remember the unusual rivalry that came about between Porsche and Nissan all of which centered around the famed Nurburgring. Nissan’s then-new GT-R was said to turn a near unheard of lap time in stock trim around the ‘Ring while Porsche rebutted that Nissan’s new super car couldn’t beat their own Turbo or GT2’s lap time. What followed was a series of press releases and on-board timed videos as well as questions to what constituted full lap of the ‘Ring. It all became a bit silly watching two automotive giants duke it out over a strip of German asphalt in the name of improved lap times for marketing and bragging rights. Thankfully, it all quieted down. That is until now

This Swiss tuning company has come up with some very creative cars such as a a pink Bentley Continental GT to a gold-clad Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR. This new creation of theirs just looks drop dead gorgeous if you ask me. The Porsche Panamera looks a lot better with the aftermarket add ons from Mansory. It looks like a car one would want instead of just another typical Porsche. Mansory is planning to release an aerodynamic kit for the four-door grand tourer that the company says gives the car a more “masculine” appearance.
