Filed under: SUV , Marketing/Advertising , Chrysler , Dodge According to an Autoblog source, Dodge will abandon the Durango nameplate for the model's replacement due for 2012. In place of that two-generation designator, Chrysler is exhuming the Magnum nameplate, a moniker used on the low-slung wagon built on Chrysler's LX platform up until 2008. The new Magnum is expected to be built atop the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis (itself riding on Mercedes-Benz -derived architecture) and skew more toward the crossover segment than the previous rough-and-ready SUV. Our source originally showed us a screen capture of a Pentastar service training software page on its Chrysler Academy Learning Center confirming the Magnum's existence (shown above), but at that time, he wasn't clear what the vehicle was.

Bigger and More Curvaceous The new M56 is based on the second-generation FM platform that is currently used in the Nissan 370Z , Infiniti’s FX50 and G37 . The 2011 Infiniti M56 has minor changes in the length and height, while the front track increases 1.4 inches and the rear by 0.8 inch. More obvious, Nissan widened the M56 by 2 inches and retained the same wheelbase. With these adjustments the 2011 M56 suggests “premium” in the way that only a roomier cabin can.

What you see here is probably the next best thing to the Scirocco for America to get from Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen design group, the NCC. Essentially this new VW compact coupe is a two-door version of the Jetta. Shown here are newly released photos of a new Volkswagen Compact Coupe Concept debuting at the Detroit Auto Show. Slated as a 2011 model, the “VW Jetta Coupe” will be competition for Nissan’s two-door Altima, and the Honda Accord Coupe.

Love it or hate it, this is really it, the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. We have witnessed several renditions of what the new Hyundai Sonata would look like and some of them were not off by far. The new stylish design resembles that of a VW Passat CC or even the Benz CLS with roof lines that mimic a coupe. Visually the car looks totally different from one end to the other. Hyundai is no longer the “el-cheapo” car from Korea (same goes for the sister nameplate Kia), it is the one that gives Toyota’s Camry and Honda’s Accord a run for their money in more ways than just the 10-year powertrain warranty. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata does not just go up against the normal run-of-the-mill Camry or Accord

The all-new 2010 Lexus HS250h hybrid will keep more of your money in your pockets as you pass gas stations, and will also have you seated in a Lexus with all of the luxury, convenience and safety that you expect from a Lexus. The Lexus HS250h is the first luxury hybrid to achieve an EPA Estimated Rating of 35mpg combined and is the first luxury car to come standard with a supplemental restraint system with 10 airbags. Hybrid efficiency is at the core of the new HS250h and Lexus’s first four-cylinder gas engine and latest hybrid system take advantage of the company’s continuous engineering advances to maximize fuel economy, minimize emissions and deliver driving pleasure. A highly efficient engine design, an exhaust heat recovery system, major efforts to reduce parasitic losses, a new evaporative emissions system and driver-selectable driving modes all make notable contributions. Significant efforts were also made to minimize engine noise. An Atkinsion-cycle engine design was chosen for its high efficiency and compatibility with hybrid operation in the new HS. The twin-cam engine uses four-valves per cylinder and Variable Valve Time with Intelligence on the intake side. The engine is undersquare, with an 88.5mm bore diameter and 96mm stroke, and has a relatively high compression ratio of 12.5:1. Peak output equals 147hp and in combination with the hybrid drive motor, the HS generates 187 total system horsepower. That is the most of any other dedicated hybrid motor.

While we hear bad news everyday about the economy here is some good news. Ford has posted a profit of $997 million when compared to the third quarter of 2008. Ford North America has bad a comeback and profit for the first time since the first quarter of 2005. The pre-tax operating profit of $357 million was also posted. Ford has made some major leaps and bounds while Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally says, “Our solid product lineup is leading the way in all markets. While we still face a challenging road ahead, our One Ford transformation plan is working and our underlying business continues to grow stronger.” Ford expects a “full” recovery is imminent and will be posting a full profit in year 2011.

The Toyota 4Runner has been a staple for what we know as the SUV since 1984. The latest redesign is now Texas-Style, or big enough to roll with other mammoth trucks currently sold in the US. Not only is it bigger, but smaller in the engine compartment as Toyota will offer a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder version of the 4Runner. Added to the line-up is a Trail grade model for those hard-core off roaders, you know who you are. Toyota’s long history and experience in making one of the best truck-SUV’s around is really paying off despite Toyota’s extended line-up of eco-friendly vehicles. The 2010 Toyota 4Runner lineup starts off with an entry level 4

The newest 2011 Infiniti QX56 recently made an appearance in the Middle East at an invitation-only event. Someone was able to capture a couple shots of Nissan’s newest mammoth SUV that is a much wanted update to the outgoing Nissan Armada and 2010 Infiniti QX56 . Looking at the grainy spy shots will reveal several Infiniti and Nissan-esq design cues including the strait forward sweeping roof like, reminiscent of the GT-R, Cube and even Kia Soul (really?). The rear tail lamps remind you of the current Infiniti FX crossovers while the front headlights and front grill are pure Infiniti. More details to be announced when they become available.
Soccer Moms need not apply. This BMW SUV is not your everyday “pick-up-the-kids” type of wagon that you are accustomed to seeing in your local township. After all, this is one of the fastest production SUV’s around. The new 2010 BMW X5 M is a new endeavor for the BMW Motorsport family that incorporates for the first time, a forced induction engine. As part of a so-called initiative to be more efficient, BMW has brought forced induction back into its driving machines starting with the 335’s inline 6 cylinder and now the infamous 4.4 liter V8 has been reworked to include twin turbos giving the new X5M and X6M 555hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque.

Only a mother could love the looks of the new Honda Crosstour. Yes Honda , I said it. From the many Facebook responses on Honda’s Accord Crosstour Facebook page you would think it is a debate over the already-confusing healthcare plan from President Obama, but we won’t open that can of worms. There are so many negative comments and “ugly” posts on the Accord Crosstour Facebook page that Honda had to come back with some type of “explanation”
