Filed under: Performance , Wagon , Europe , Videos , Volvo , Diesel , Luxury 2011 Volvo V60 - Volvo has just sauntered into the battle to convince the world that wagons are as cool as they are functional with a new launch video for the company's very sexy V60 long-roof. The car's hobbies appear to be rocking out across the open desert and hustling family and cargo across town in a hurry. Globally, the company is offering a number of engines in the V60, including a new 2.0-liter direct-injected four with around 203 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Sadly, we wouldn't exactly hold your breath waiting for that one to show up on this side of the world. But all may not yet be lost - Volvo has been kind enough to supply the car with a turbo 3.0-liter T6 with 304 Swedish ponies and 324 lb-ft of torque - a powertrain that sounds more like what the automaker might consider for North America (if indeed it gets the nod at all). In either case, the blown six-pot would would no doubt have us double-checking to make sure our groceries are secured.

Filed under: SUV , Marketing/Advertising , Chrysler , Dodge According to an Autoblog source, Dodge will abandon the Durango nameplate for the model's replacement due for 2012. In place of that two-generation designator, Chrysler is exhuming the Magnum nameplate, a moniker used on the low-slung wagon built on Chrysler's LX platform up until 2008. The new Magnum is expected to be built atop the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis (itself riding on Mercedes-Benz -derived architecture) and skew more toward the crossover segment than the previous rough-and-ready SUV. Our source originally showed us a screen capture of a Pentastar service training software page on its Chrysler Academy Learning Center confirming the Magnum's existence (shown above), but at that time, he wasn't clear what the vehicle was.

All other car companies admire what BMW has done with the 3 Series by Making it an “affordable,” sport-luxury model that brings in huge profits and is well followed by many ( I go with my friend in is his 2004 330i for lunch every chance I get). Alpha is GM’s small rear-drive vehicle architecture and will be launching in late 2010 sedan as a smaller-than CTS Cadillac aimed squarely at the BMW 3 Series. This is where the volume is in the premium segment, both here in the U.S. and abroad. This is where most automakers bread is buttered. Cadillac simply cannot afford not to do this car and must do a coupe, convertible, and wagon variations of the car, following Mercedes-Benz and BMW

Up until today, you could not convince me that wagons, or what some of you call ‘station wagons’, are cool. I think they are hideous and plain butt ugly but lately my old-school perception has changes with the introduction and conformation of the new Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon coming out. The new Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is pretty bad-assed if you ask me. It has a rear-end that I would want to ahh-cough-cough, open and CLOSE. Not only does the CTS-V Sport Wagon look pleasing to the eye, it should do a number to your back when you press the gas pedal laying down 556 horsepower and 551 ft-lbs of torque. The big 6.2-liter V8 crammed into the CTS-V Sport Wagon is good for a run from 0 to 60mph in 4.1 seconds.

Soccer Moms need not apply. This BMW SUV is not your everyday “pick-up-the-kids” type of wagon that you are accustomed to seeing in your local township. After all, this is one of the fastest production SUV’s around. The new 2010 BMW X5 M is a new endeavor for the BMW Motorsport family that incorporates for the first time, a forced induction engine. As part of a so-called initiative to be more efficient, BMW has brought forced induction back into its driving machines starting with the 335’s inline 6 cylinder and now the infamous 4.4 liter V8 has been reworked to include twin turbos giving the new X5M and X6M 555hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque.

Only a mother could love the looks of the new Honda Crosstour. Yes Honda , I said it. From the many Facebook responses on Honda’s Accord Crosstour Facebook page you would think it is a debate over the already-confusing healthcare plan from President Obama, but we won’t open that can of worms. There are so many negative comments and “ugly” posts on the Accord Crosstour Facebook page that Honda had to come back with some type of “explanation”

The all-new 2009 Toyota Venza crossover brings cutting edge design and more passenger comfort and amenities to the growing crossover segment. Passenger car power and handing plus versatile and functional five-passenger interior enhancements make the all-new Venza one of the best crossover vehicles on the market. The development focus of the Venza design team was to create a new vehicle that shifted away from the more traditional SUV styling themes prevalent in today’s market by leaning more heavily on a sleek sedan concept with a wide stance that featured a sporty exterior, but also included important SUV attributes such as cargo space, towing capability and all-wheel-drive performance. The exterior design begins with an imposing front end featuring a distinctive grille, headlights and fog lamps for an aggressive, yet refined look. The silhouette shows an aerodynamic shape with short front/rear overhangs, swept-back A-pillars, crisp character lines, and a low roofline and ground clearance. From behind is Venza’s sophisticated and confident appearance is complete with an angled rear hatch, spoiler, wide wraparound tail lamps that interconnect with the hatch door and wide, dual exhaust pipes located under the rear integrated bumper. Venza’s sweeping lower rocker panels achieve a lower step-over height for easier entry and exit. Its sizable rear hatch opening enhances loading and unloading of cargo, plus the Venza rides on standard 19in.

“ANOTHER VOLKSWAGEN HYBRID ALTERNATIVE” The new 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportswagen now comes with the option of a 2.0 liter turbocharged clean diesel engine that gives you the ability to drive more miles between fill-ups saving you money. Volkswagen has taken its highly successful 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine from the Passat line of sedans and wagons and gives you the option of enjoying its higher mpg and quiet operation. The clean diesel TDI is compliant in all 50-states and comes with a $1,300.00 Federal tax credit. There is no compromise on power or torque either as this powerplant makes 140hp at 4,000rpm and a healthy 236lb.ft. of torque from 1,750-2,500rpm. That’s plenty of power and torque to easily move a family of five with cargo in the rear area and mounted on the roof. The 2.0 liter clean diesel engine TDI’s make use of VW’s advanced electronically control turbocharger and common rail direct injection technology. The engine is mated to either a smooth shifting 6-speed manual transmission, or a 6-speed automatic DSG transmission with Tiptronic that lets you keep the gear in drive or, when the situation is right, to manually change gears with a tap of the gear shifter or paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. The standard electronic differential lock helps minimize torque steer associated with front-wheel-drive vehicles

Camera phones are turning into quite an asset in this business, as readers of various automotive news sites across the interwebs and around the world have turned into legions of spy photographers. In this instance, one such reader-turned-paparazzo (apparently in Italy, no less) caught on video what appears to be some sort of Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake test mule. The thing is absolutely hideous if you ask me! I hope that isn’t what they are trying to do with the Cayman

The all-new 2009 Nissan Cube is not really all-new, but is the third-generation. Nissan introduced the original Cube, an aptly named box-on-wheels, to minor consumer interest. Maybe the Cube was ahead of its time, even for the hip, young Japanese. Time is change and Nissan didn’t give up and they spent time and money getting the all-new 2 nd generation ready for its 2002 debut to the Japanese market. More spacious inside, more glass outside, more power under the hood, and a few more angles and curved surface details added to its compact, slab-sided exterior. Japanese styling personified, the new Cube took Tokyo by storm. The Cube was a hit as a pocket-sized fun and function machine. Like the Nissan GT-R before it, the Nissan Cube soon found an audience outside of Japan-not in person but through its exposure in fashion, videos, the web, and automotive magazines.
