With an announcement of new CAFE standards set to almost double mpg efficiency, BMW has a jump on things with the new BMW i8 Concept that is said to get an astonishing 78 miles per gallon and still reach 60mph in less than 5 seconds. Plug-in hybrid supercars are virtually unheard of in the realm of currently produced cars. BMW has set their eyes on introducing such a vehicle by 2014. The new BMW i8 Concept is said to be not far off from a production version. Not to mention, a working prototype makes an appearance in the upcoming Mission Impossible 4 film, Ghost Protocol .
